Spaghetti Bolognese

Ingredients

¼ onion, diced

400g can tomatoes, crushed

1 tsp garlic, crushed

2 Tbsp tomato paste, reduced-salt

½ tsp chilli

150 g dried spaghetti

200g mince (optional)

Instructions

To cook the pasta:

  1. Pour 3 cups of water into a large pot and cover with the lid.

  2. Turn the element on to high.

  3. When the water comes to the boil, take the lid off and LEAVE IT OFF.

  4. Carefully add the spaghetti to the boiling water. Stir occasionally to make sure the spaghetti does not stick to the bottom of the pot.

  5. Boil the spaghetti for 8 minutes.

  6. Drain the spaghetti carefully by pouring the spaghetti and boiling water into a colander that you have placed in your kitchen sink. Keep your face away from the steam as you pour out the water so that you do not get a steam burn.

  7. Serve up the spaghetti into bowls.

To make the sauce:

  1. Dice the onion and stir fry in a fry pan with a dash of water until soft. Use a wooden spoon to stir fry the onion.

  2. Add mince, if you are using, and break up the mince with the wooden spoon into small pieces as you cook.

  3. Add crushed tomatoes, garlic, tomato paste and chilli and cook until thickened.

  4. Pour sauce over the spaghetti.
